Bread smelling work in the bakery

Production work in a bakery

In production work in the bakery, you get to concretely see your own handiwork here and now, in the form of fresh bread. The bakery is the heart of our operations, as it is where the Finns' favourite breads are made under the gentle care of the employees, from Vaasan Rye Pieces to Oat Pillows.

What is production work like in a bakery? Lauri and Renska tell

A bakery is a place where many things have to fall together, from the dosage of ingredients to baking and packaging. More than 200 employees work in bread production, who professionally take care of their own bread and work seamlessly together without compromising on quality and safety.

Our bakeries employ a diverse group of professionals, such as dough makers, bread designers, bakers, pre-packers and supervisors.

A large part of the work is monitoring the process and machines. The work also includes active work, such as replacing machine parts, adjusting equipment and reacting to fault situations, so there is no time to make a living at work. When you work with a live dough, every working day can be different.

Bakery work in shifts is available in Tammisto, Kuusankoski, Kiiminki and Vammala in Vantaa, where our bakeries are located.

What is the atmosphere like in the bakery?

Healthy and safe – everyone, every day, everywhere

In terms of health and well-being, our goal is clear: we want every Vaasan resident to leave work at the end of the day in at least as good a condition as when they arrived at work. Our starting point is to provide employees with a healthy and safe working environment that aims to prevent the occurrence of occupational accidents and diseases.

Our goal is that by 2030, health and safety processes, management and operations will have been raised to an excellent level. To achieve these goals, we are implementing Lantmännen Unibake's strategic Health and Safety programme.

In her work, Pinja especially enjoys varied tasks and situations that require problem-solving.

Vaasan is closely involved in the everyday life of the Jäppinen family

From the family of work instructor Tommi Jäppinen, Vaasan also has a wife, a daughter and a son.

Vaasan is a safe employer

Four reasons to choose Vaasan

1. Warm culture

Openness, mutual appreciation and friendliness. These are the foundation of our good workday. At Vaasan, you will be part of a super nice team that is always ready to help and support your development. You can turn to anyone – we don't have closed doors or a hierarchical organization. .

2. We invest in the well-being, growth and development of our employees

The comprehensive well-being and competence development of the people of Vaasan are matters close to our hearts. We regularly organise training for our employees on topics such as occupational safety, supervisory work, self-management and baking technology. The foundation of well-being is built on occupational health care that covers more than the basic level and our well-being offering, which includes various tools, services and benefits (e.g. sports and culture benefits). Employees have the opportunity to utilise mental well-being support services as part of occupational health care.

3. We bake Finns' favourite breads

We are proud of our long baking tradition and our roots. We have a competitive and constantly developing product range, which includes several long-time favorites, starting with Vaasan Ruispalot, as well as interesting novelties. Vaasan is the right place if you want to be involved in almost every Finn's food moments through our breads and secure our country's food supply.

4. We have the heart of a small bakery, but the responsibility of a large bakery

We take responsibility for the climate and environmental impacts of our products from field to fork, and we have set measurable goals for this work in both the short and long term. Wholegrain bread, in particular, is a healthy and climate- and nature-friendly choice to fill a grumpy stomach now and in the future – as part of a planetary diet.
